Injury rate was about 12.8 injuries per 1,000 hours of training.
Professional boxing matches
One study reported ~ 23.6 injuries per 100 professional fights in Victoria, Australia.
Another reported an injury incidence of 17.1 per 100 boxer-matches, or 3.4 per 100 boxer-rounds.
Amateur boxing
A systematic review/meta-analysis gave these rates:
• In competition: ~ 54.7 injuries per 1,000 athlete exposures
• In training: much lower, ~ 1.3 injuries per 1,000 hours of exposure
Most injuries in amateur competition occur in the head/neck region. Upper limbs are also commonly affected.
